A mass incarceration expert says the 2018 prison strike could be “one of the largest the country has ever seen／Vox／Aug 22,2018 より抜粋
To protest unfair treatment in the criminal justice system, prisoners across 17 states from coast to coast have started what they expect will be a nearly three-week prison strike — it began on August 21 and ends on September 9.
Prisoners will conduct work stoppages, hunger strikes, and spending boycotts in the hopes that their list of 10 demands is met.

The prisoners are protesting many issues — including an exemption in the 13th Amendment allowing them to be forced to work for pennies a day. They are led by a slew of organizations, including Jailhouse Lawyers Speak and the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee.

犯罪者に対するシステムについての不公平な待遇への抗議のために、１７州にわたる受刑者たちがおよそ３週間近く、８月２１日～９月９日まで行われる予定でストライキを始めた。
受刑者たちは１０個にわたる要求の合意を求めてボイコットしたり、食事を断つ、作業中断するなどのストライキを行っていく。

受刑者たちはアメリカが州国憲法第１３条の修正を求め、低賃金で働くことを強いられていることを含め多くの問題に対して講義をしている。彼らは、Jailhouse Lawyers Speak や Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee.を含む多くの団体により支援を受け、行っている。

今までも受刑者のストライキというのはあったそうなんですが、
今回のが一番長く大きなものになりそうということでした。
調べていくと米国の受刑者数の割合は世界で最も高いそうです。
世界の受刑者の1/5は米国なんだそうで、びっくりです。
